The Millennium Cup will be played over four weeks with four teams, one from each club and a home and away fixture for the semi finals and the Final and 3rd, 4th place. They will be played over four Thursdays from the 15th July. Hopefully all restrictions wil have eased so we can meet up indoors for a mel and enjoy some social interaction.
We have decided this year to draw the Millennium Cup at the AGM and then yearly thereon. Everyone who attended was involved in the blind draw. Caister have horse racing on the 1st two Thursdays of the Cup this year so cannot host a game. If they make the final they will have to play on a neutral ground. If neither Caister teams make it through then the final will be held at Caister.
Millennium Cup 2019
The final was at Caldecott Hall on Thursday the 15th August between the Rookery Rebels and the Bungay Black Dogs.
In a close, competitive and friendly atmosphere the Bungay Black Dogs came out on top 3-2. It is the 1st win in the cup for Bungay since 2003.
A great many thanks to all the players and special mention to Peter Bunn who is stepping down from the captaincy. He has been a great supporter of the league. Also a special mention to the effervescent Jim Barber who is moving to Lincolnshire after many years at Bungay and supporting the Thursday League. He will be missed by Bungay and by all of the other teams. Sorry to see him go. It was also great to see John Pawsey at the final as he has been connected to the Thursday league in one way or another for many years.
Up to now the league winners have never won the Millennium Cup in the same season. - and that sequence has continued in 2019.
